Good evening, all!

It's been a ridiculous while since I was here last, but that is because I have been up to ~ e x c i t i n g   t h i n g s ~ ! First, I was writing a book.

Second, I was helping my husband publish his books. (Also, I married.)

Third, I FINISHED MY BOOK! YAYAYAYAY!

And fourth, circumstances have recently allowed for me to WORK FULL TIME WRITING AND MARKETING ALL OUR BOOKS HOLY WHAT. I AM SO EXCITED YOU GUYS.

I'd been working at the local library for nearly 10 years on and off prior to this, so it's definitely a strange transition, but I'm eager for all that's to come! I'm also hoping that, somewhere within all my newfound free time, I'll be able to produce new art. Prioritizing my novel as my dedicated creative pursuit was a good idea - If I hadn't, I'd still be writing it - but I miss drawing and painting SO MUCH. I already have some cover art to add to the gallery, now that I'm lead marketer/cover designer/doer of ALL THE THINGS for Holo Writing, but I'm seriously ready to dabble in more whimsical content.

Speaking of my gallery, in perusing it recently, I've realized that it's a mess, and teenage me - UGH, self, what were you thinking when you posted those rambly, long-winded descriptions? :| Also, given that The Wizard's Way (alias The Stark Phantasmagoria alias Being Two Accounts of the Stark Phantasmagoria) is over ten years in the making, and that the final version is very different from the original version, the majority of the art that I posted in the process of writing it is vastly outdated in terms of relevance to the story. All this said, I'm now going through a process of reorganizing my gallery, making the early descriptions less eye-grating to read and generally cleaning out some other stuff. All Wizard's Way/Stark Phantasmagoria stuff has been taken down for the moment, but will reappear later with context added.

Re-introductions aside, I'm glad to be back, and I look forward to gawking at everyone's art again. :D

Best,
H.P. Holo (formerly HViciPrice)

Music:  Nothing at the moment.

Food:  GRAPES!
Literary Goodness:  Larklight by Philip Reeve, Unseen Academicals by Terry Pratchett, The Sunday Philosophy Club by Alexander McCall Smith, and Othello Volume 3 by Satomi Ikezawa.

Just making my first major DA reappearance in FOREVER and noticed that my journal was hideously out of date.  I would post something more relevant, but it is late, and I am four months in to failing my first New Year's Resolution, which was "Go to bed before midnight."  (Thus far, I have done it twice.)  Going to bed now will not help me meet it, but it will at least help me fail less at it.

My first Summer Resolution is to make more art, so hopefully the fruit of that will start showing up here again.  Warm weather makes me miss arting.

Off to sleep!

Music:  A bunch of anime music.

Every time I see someone going back to school these days, I feel smug.  Sympathetic to the teachers, of course, but smug.

That said, I'm not teaching this year.  Last month, I finally earned my much-sought-after job at my local library, so to add to my Deli work, I'm now a Teen Services Assistant!  W00t!  :w00t:  It's awesome because I still get to work with teens, but when they get overly obnoxious or disruptive, I can say, "Hey, security!  Take 'em out!" and I might never see them again.  (Muahaha!)  That doesn't happen in teaching.  At the library, I've also become head of the creative writing club and anime club, all things I wanted to do as a teacher (all with the benefit of not having to do grading and lesson planning around them)!

Of course, one of the biggest perks of this job is that it actually allows me time to do things at home other than lesson plan.  In fact, I've been using this time not only to catch up on my noveling, but to build up a little arts business, which will be hitting the local festival circuit in September.

Also, I GOT A NEW KITTY!  His name is Peek because he looks vaguely like the Yamapiakrya cat from Azumanga Daioh (or the Pika Meow-Meow, as Osaka would call it).  He is almost the polar opposite of Locke (my other cat) in that he's sociable and likes to sit in laps, though they can both agree on the fact that paper is awesome, especially when I'm trying to quill with it.  The two cats are not buddies yet, though Peek thinks they are.  He has not yet figured out that a fearsome yowl and bat in the face from Locke means "Get outta my business!" (which is probably karma, since Locke is totally an always-in-your-business cat.)

ALSO, I'm going to my first anime convention soon, too, and possibly cosplaying!  But that's a topic for another entry.

Music: Everything.
Mood:  Blissful.
Movie:  Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, The Adventures of Baron Munchausen, and The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus
Food:  Cheerios!
Literary Goodness:  The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman, Angela's Ashes by Frank McCourt, and Cirque du Freak: Lord of the Shadows by Darren Shan.

My first year of teaching has drawn to its end.  **fanfare music!**  While there were many things I enjoyed about it, in the interests of my health and sanity, I've decided that teaching isn't quite my calling.

Anyhoo, my plan now is to publish The Stark Phantasmagoria, get rich off the proceeds, and never have to work again.

Seeing as how that's not going to happen within the next year, though, I'm hoping to return to a job in the local library system.  I interviewed for a position as a Teen Assistant last week, and despite my completely blanking on the question "Who is your favorite teen author?", I thought it went rather well.  I should hear back this week on what the final decision is.  I also have an interview at Barnes and Noble coming up this week.

Currently, though, I'm rocking a hairnet at an Ingles Deli, which is fun though unexpected and has the added benefit of teaching me how to make foods other than pasta, brownies, and weird Asian-style varieties of chicken.

As a side note, one interesting thing I've discovered about hairnets is that they share some similar attributes with Superman's tights and Sailor Moon's sailor suit--once put on, the identity of the wearer becomes completely INVISIBLE despite his/her face being visible and essentially unchanged.  If you plan on being a superhero, totally wear a hairnet.

Oh, I also went to see Prince of Persia, and despite Jake Gyllenhall being one big PERSIAN FAIL, the movie was actually rather cool.  Kind of like Pirates of the Caribbean, but with more sand.  But there aren't enough outrageous adventure movies in the world, so I'm not complaining.

GAH I CAN'T WAIT FOR THE LAST AIRBENDER!

Food:  Teriyaki Shrimp!
Literary Goodness:  The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini, Cirque du Freak 5-7 by Darren Shan, Jeeves and the Tie that Binds by P. G. Wodehouse, and Broken Sky 4 by Chris Wooding.

HOLY WOW I cleaned out my Message Centre for the first time in YEARS.

Also HOLY WOW, my page now has over 10,000 pageviews!  How did that ever happen?  Granted, like, 100 or so of them are mine since I always open up to my page to log in, but still...

And finally, a question:

In PhotoShop, how can you shrink a file so that it's less than 15 KB in size and still presentable?  I've been trying to make a new DA avatar FOREVER, and no matter what I do, whether shrinking the image quality or what, I can never get my files below 30 KB.

What am I doing wrong?
